How It Started

When my partner Grant came home after University one day and told me he wanted us to cut out all simple carbs and sugar, my stomach sank. However, after being forced to watch various lectures online regarding health and nutrition, I decided it was worth a go and agreed to cut out all sugar, sweetener and simple carbohydrates for 2 weeks. We did this strictly, no chocolate, no pasta or rice, no cakes, in fact we had to say no to lots of things! It was hard and the only thing that kept us going was the reward at the end, a Dominoes pizza. 2 weeks passed and I was finally able to go down the bread and biscuit aisle in the supermarket, I got home and made us crumpets with poached eggs, mmmmmmm. Unfortunately I couldn't finish my crumpets as I felt so bloated and Grant wasn't much better. We decided we wouldn't have the Dominoes after all, and so once we had finished off the various packets of biscuits I had bought, we decided we would stick to the eating plan we'd started. Another week passed, the sun came out and after a few drinks after work one night we decided a Dominoes pizza was a good idea. UGH! I felt like a small person was in my stomach trying to beat their way out! Even more reason to stick to the plan!

It's worth noting that this wasn't a diet for weight loss but just for healthy eating and feeling better within ourselves, although after 4 weeks I had lost 1/2 a stone. We are 8 weeks in and although we generally stick to no sugar, sweetener or simple carbs we aren't quite as strict, there is no need to be. After 8 weeks I generally find that I don't want all the things I'm not allowed anyway. If I go out for dinner, I'll  have a dessert and won't avoid the bread basket but generally day to day when cooking at home, we avoid these things and find replacements. We both feel better and I certainly don't get the craving for a nap after I've eaten my lunch at work anymore.

I told my mum and sister about the eating plan we were doing and started sending them pictures of my meals to give them ideas for what to cook themselves. That's when mum suggested we all start a blog, so here we are with All Too Munch. Just a simple blog with recipes and ideas for a healthier cleaner diet which I'm sure will leave you feeling better!

The first 2 weeks will be hard, but it gets easier as you go along and once you're at 8 weeks, I'll be surprised if it doesn't just feel natural.
